(SPEEDWAY 1)COVENTRY have announced the signing of former British Champion Joe Screen to act as cover for the injured Adam Roynon.Screen, Glasgows No.1 in the Premier League, will make his Bees debut at Birmingham on Wednesday with Roynon remaining in hospital under observation for at least the next week after suffering a head injury on Good Friday.Coventry promoter Mick Horton said: We will give Adam every chance to come back if he chooses, and as a club we will stick by him no matter what. But for the benefit of the team we had to re-declare. We cant go with rider-replacement, it wouldnt be good enough, and I think Joe will be able to do a job for us.(SPEEDWAY 2)NEWCASTLE collected the Ian Thomas Shield after an aggregate battle with Workington which went down to the last race. The Diamonds trailed by nine points going into Sundays second leg, which they won 54-40 with Richie Worrall (15) and Ludvig Lindgren (13+2) both scoring heavily from six rides apiece as they covered for the injured Andrew Tully.Newcastle boss George English said: The lads really wanted to win this trophy, and whilst it meant a lot to both clubs were delighted to put our name as the first on the Ian Thomas Shield.I think its given us a good inkling how well our side can race together, and against a Workington side that also raced well it sends out good vibes for the coming weeks.(FIXTURES)MONDAY APRIL 1:LEAGUE CUP: Rye House v Ipswich 2pmTUESDAY APRIL 2:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Wolverhampton v Belle Vue 7.30WEDNESDAY APRIL 3:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Birmingham v Coventry 7.30, Poole v Kings Lynn 7.30THURSDAY APRIL 4:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Swindon v Lakeside 7.30LEAGUE CUP: Ipswich v Plymouth 7.30, Sheffield v Scunthorpe 7.45TYNE TEES TROPHY 1st leg: Redcar v Newcastle 7.30FRIDAY APRIL 5:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Coventry v Belle Vue 8pm, Lakeside v Swindon 8pm, Peterborough v Eastbourne 7.30LEAGUE CUP: Plymouth v Rye House 7.15, Scunthorpe v Sheffield 7.30, Somerset v Ipswich 7.30SPRING TROPHY 1st leg: Edinburgh v Glasgow 7.30
