Massive Sandy Hook Benefit Car Show at Lime Rock Park

Sat., Apr. 13As many as 3,000 cars, bikes and trucks; convoys from Texas, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey and all New England states On Saturday, April 13, one of the biggest Show and Shine car-and-bike-and-truck shows in New England is coming to Lime Rock Park. It is a first-time event, and its one of the larger efforts to benefit victims and the first responders of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. There will be huge convoys of vehicles from states as far away as Maine, Maryland and Texas,

 Its called Spikes Ride for Sandy Hook at Lime Rock Park, organized by George Spikes LeGrice, who lives in Raynham, Mass. At least a dozen other convoy leaders, including Walt Lemet of Torrington, Conn., have donated much time and effort to the cause. (Lime Rock Park is donating the facility and its staff to help make this happen.)Spikes Ride for Sandy Hook is a Show-and-Shine for cars, trucks and bikes, featuring live music, a drifting exhibition and a motorcycle stunt show, plus other activities for kids and adults. The shows hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.The showclose to 3,000 cars, bikes and truckswill be held in both the Infield and Outfield. All Lime Rock Park concessions and cafes will be open. On the racetrack during the show is an EMRA Track Day.People who wish to bring a car, bike or truck and enter the show are asked to arrive between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. Its a $15 donation for cars and bikes, $20 for pick-ups and bobtails.Spectators are encouraged to come, too; the donation is $5.For the Litchfield County, Conn., convoy, a meeting place has been established at the commuter parking off Exit 42 on Route 8 northbound. The meeting time is 7 a.m. and the group will leave at 7:30 and cruise to New Milford to join another group leaving from the George Washington Plaza on Route 7 in Gaylordsville. Cars will meet there at 5:30 a.m. and leave at 6:45. Bikes will leave at 8:45.The Waterbury, Conn., convoy participants will meet at the Stadium Sports Bar & Grille, 550 Chase Ave. Breakfast and coffee will be available at 6:30 am. The group will leave the lot at 7:30.All proceeds collected from admission and individual donations will help those affected most by the tragedythe families and first responders who suffered in the Newtown calamity.These are the Newtown beneficiaries:Sandy Hook Family Healing FundStarted by parents in Newtown, the mission of the Sandy Hook Family Healing Fund is to assist the survivors from the two classrooms where the shootings took place.  The Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Adopt a Sandy Hook CopThis program was started by Mothers Embrace Yoga, from Shelton, Conn., to support the Newtown Police Department. The money collected by the program is provided directly to the Newtown Police Department liaison, which in turn distributes the funds to officers in need.
