Drivers over 45 not having won FIA-sanctioned titles eligible to competeThe International GT Open will have, as from 2013, a Gentlemen Trophy. This new prize is aimed at rewarding the best amateur driver of over 45 years of age.
Gentlemen drivers are since ever a key element in GT racing, says Jess Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, We wanted to reflect this fact on our series and create a trophy to recognize and reward their passion and commitment.
To compete for this trophy, drivers should be over 45 years of age on 15th April 2013 and have not won a FIA-sanctioned title in their career. The Organizing Committee retains the possibility to consider eligible other drivers, on the basis of their track record or performance, and will review the list of eligible drivers after Round 4.
A Gentlemen Trophy will be awarded at each race to the best gentleman driver classified, regardless of the class in which he competes. The first five will score points for the Trophy according to the scale 10-8-6-5-4 points. At the end of the season, drivers of the SuperGT category, will drop 10 % of their points. The overall winner(s) will receive the GT Open Gentlemen Trophy at the traditional Awards Ceremony.
