8 Oreca 03-Nissan Class: LMP2 Mark Patterson, Driver, #18The second free practice session was so much better than the first. The weather improved for FP2 and the track got a little bit drier so we opted for the wets. I went out for a couple of laps after Brendon and the car was beautiful, but the tyres were beginning to go off so we took the risk of putting on the slicks. Brendon took the car out to make sure it was safe, and it was very safe actually; he took a lot of time off every time he went out. They threw me in the car for half a dozen laps at the end and it felt like a race car again. This morning I felt uncomfortable, but here we are, on this drying track and the car was really, really quick. Fortunately I was in the top amateur driver times and Brendon was in P1 or P2, so if we could go home right now we would have won the race!
Brendon Hartley, Driver, #18It couldnt have gone much better today. We were pretty quick in the rain this morning and got some dry running this afternoon. When I was on track the car felt the best its ever felt, so it fills me with confidence that after four months of no testing in this car, and after the team completely rebuilt it, we could be this competitive straight off. We have a small team of very experienced staff, but its the first time they have worked together, so it was an extremely positive day. It was good for Mark to get a few laps in the dry at the end as well; he hopped out of the car with a big smile on his face, improving every lap, so its looking good for tomorrow.Malcolm Swetnam, Team Manager, Murphy PrototypesWe are very satisfied with todays running. We are a brand new, turnkey team and have had no real issues at all. Mark has slotted in perfectly. He has a little bit of experience here with GTs, but had a baptism of fire in the rain with us this morning. Both drivers seem pretty happy with things and the teams working well, so we are very happy with the way its going.Greg Murphy, Owner, Murphy Prototypes Today went very well. Brendon was top of the time sheets for most of our running, but today was actually about getting our systems in place, making sure all the lads knew their jobs and to ensure that we gelled together as a cohesive new team. So far its been great and I am pleasantly optimistic about tomorrow.
