Class win for Anthony Reid and Ray Grimes in the Chevron GT4 at the opening round of the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship
In the first race of 2013 for Chevron Cars Ltd, as part of the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship at Donington (Saturday 13 April), the famous British marque secured three well-deserved podium finishes from four Chevrons on the grid.
Former British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) star Anthony Reid and Chevron team-mate Ray Grimes won their class in the Chevron GT4, and finished a strong fourth overall in the three-hour endurance race.
Meanwhile, Jordan Witt and Marcus Clutton, piloting the Chevron GT3, qualified fourth for Saturdays race and set a good pace in the opening laps. Clocking impressive lap times and moving up to second place before electrical issues, the revamped GT3s potential was evident on its race debut this year.
David Witt, owner of Chevron Cars Limited, commented: Its been a fantastic season opener for Chevron this weekend. There were four Chevrons out there, all four finished, with three on the podium from three different teams. The fact that the cars were from different teams just shows the strength of the car and how well it performs.
It was effectively a test session for the GT3 as we have installed a new engine and gearbox for this year. Unfortunately it was an electrical fault that hampered the GT3 later on in the race, but we have a whole new electrical loom coming from Cosworth this week. Before the electrical problems, the lap times set in the GT3 were excellent, and from fourth on the grid Marcus [Clutton] moved up to second.
Anthony Reid said: Following a busy Winter for Chevron, including a relocation for the team and a lot of development on the car, to deliver this result on our first outing is great. Towards the end of the race we were the fastest on the track, and that was against even more powerful cars. This is particularly pleasing, especially as we did it in the Chevron without any electronic aids such as ABS and traction control.
The Chevron GT4 is fun to drive, has good balance and it coped really well with the difficult conditionsit rained throughout the whole race. Ray [Grimes] was quick and consistent, and we worked well as a partnership.
Chevron Cars will be back in action at Donington in two weeks time, for the first round of the 2013 GT Cup Championship on 27-28 April.
