Drivex is going to have a brilliant pair in the International GT Open this year, after the agreement with two promising GT stars in Europe: Niccolo Schiro and Archie Hamilton. Both drivers, respectively from Italy and England, are going to drive the Porsche 911 RSR 2012 fielded by the Madrid-based team in the International GT Open, after a successful meeting hold recently at Porsche Motorsport headquarters in Weissach. Their excellent performances during Winter Series proved to be decisive to represent Porsche Motorsport in the European scene.
Schir, born in Miln 25 March, 1994-, despite his youth has a shining background in motorsport. After debuting in the Campionati Italiano Formula ACIC SAI Abarth in 2010, joined the European F3 Open the following year, and clinching two podium finishes and a fastest lap during his season debut. Precisely the F3 Open was won by Schir in 2012, completing an awesome season with four wins, twelve podiums, three pole positions and six fastest laps. 2013 is going to be his first year ever in GT competition.
Hamilton, born in London 26 May, 1991- is Duncan Hamiltons grandson, a former Le Mans winner in 1953, and has plenty of experience on the European and International scene. After beginning in single-seater championships such as British Formula Ford and Formula Renault, Hamilton made his debut in GT during 2010 campaign, taking part in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain. Other championships like Blancpain Endurance Series, American Le Mans Series or City Challenge Baku GT event have been other important challenges for him. The Briton driver participated in the GT Open last year, finishing 3rd in the GTS standings at the wheel of a Porsche 997 GT3 R. The upcoming 2013 season will be his first one with a GT2 car.
Miguel ngel de Castro: Its amazing to have a driver line-up like that! Im glad to have Archie and Niccol with us this year and Im looking forward to starting the season at Paul Ricard. During the pre-season tests me managed to see how fast theyre and their racing pedigree. Lets see. Everyone at Drivex, engineers, mechanics and drivers, and Porsche Motorsport, will work to have a successful year.
Archie Hamilton: After fighting for GTS honors in 2012, I was looking for joining Super GT class this year. The Porsche 911 GT3R was pretty good but a GT2 was my main target this season. Miguel ngel called me to drive Drivex Porsche 911 RSR 2012 and backed by PorscheMotorsport, something incredible at this point of my career and what was my dream. Its nice to team with Niccol, because we met in Barcelona for first time and almost immediately our lap times were quite similar. There is a way to thank Drivex and Porsche Motorsport this program: wins and, why not, the title.
Niccolo Schiro: Im very happy after joining Drivex. My new car, the Porsche GT2, was incredible to drive since the beginning. Really my adaption period to Drivex was quite easy and quick, so Im looking forward to Paul Ricard. I know the GT Open is an outstanding championship because I know it rather well, in fact I could watch last years races while racing in the F3 Open. I won the F3 Open, and with Archie as my new teammate, I think a new title isnt out of reach even when my experience isnt that long with this sort of cars.
