Podium Finish Just Eludes Lloyd At Donington Park Porsche Carrera Cup

Daniel Lloyd experienced a mixed second event of the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship at Donington Park National Circuit over the weekend, 20th/21st April, but fourth place in round four did enable the Huddersfield racer to climb the points standings.Sunday afternoons televised race, screened live on ITV4 and ITV4 HD, was the pick of the two Donington encounters for the Team Parker Racing driver. After overcoming early issues linked to tyre pressures, he mounted a strong fight-back to get within 0.7 seconds of the podium at the finish.Beginning the second race of the weekend from fourth on the grid, Daniel made an excellent start to move into third place but was powerless to prevent a slip down to fifth due to the lack of grip he was experiencing. From mid-distance though, things improved for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar and he was back into fourth by lap 12.Despite being faster than third placed Jonas Gelzinis at certain parts of the circuit, Daniel wasnt able to prise open the opportunity he needed and instead had to settle for the, nonetheless welcome, points for a top four placing. We decided to try something with the tyre pressures but it turned out to be the wrong choice, so for the first five laps it was a struggle, explained the 21-year-old, Towards the end of the race the car felt really good, I was a lot quicker than [Jonas] Gelzinis but I was quicker in the wrong places.I was really fast into corners like the Old Hairpin but there werent any opportunities to get him there, so it was really tough to try and find a way by. We definitely had the pace for a podium but just couldnt quite get it.Round three, earlier in the day, proved to be a frustrating outing for both driver and team when a fuel pump issue resulted in Daniel having to pit a handful of laps into the encounter. Having qualified fourth, just 0.155 seconds shy of pole position, the West Yorkshireman had high hopes of battling for the podium but off the start he immediately noticed something amiss with the car. After pitting at the end of his third lap Daniel was able to rejoin the race but some three laps down on the leaders, therefore having to settle for 13th place. Having been fastest of all during officially timed testing at Donington during the build-up to the weekend on Thursday, 18th April, Daniel had hoped for more from the weekend so is now determined to bounce back strongly at the next event.Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, the scene of Daniels maiden Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship race victory last year, will host rounds five and six of the season on 4th/5th May.2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship Standings (after Rd4):=7th Daniel Lloyd, 33pts
