The 20-minute sprint race of the ATS Formula 3 Cup is usually marked by numerous battles and overtaking manoeuvres, and today was no different. Sebastian Balthasar, a rookie contesting in the Trophy ranking, took the pole position due to the reversed start order for the first eight drivers from race 1. The drivers of the Cup ranking fought hard. In the end, Swede John Bryant-Meisner for the Performance Racing team secured the victory, followed by Russian Artem Martelov for the Lotus team and Austrian Thomas Jager, who put in a fantastic performance overtaking car after car. Hubertos Carlos Vier from Inching, who contests for TTCmotorsport, won the Trophy ranking.
The youngest driver competing in the ATS Formula 3 Cup, 16-year old Italian Matteo Cairoli from the ADM Motorsport team defended his lead on the wet track of the etropolis Motorsportarena Oschersleben for quite a long time. Behind him were American Gustavo Menezes from Van Amersfoort Racing and Swiss Yannick Mettler from Team Performance Racing. They all compete in the Cup ranking in a Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine. Swede John Bryant-Meisner from Performance Racing moved up into second place and took the lead a few laps before crossing the finish line. Russian Artem Markelov from the Lotus team took the second place, with his fastest lap of 1:39.109. Especially noteworthy is the performance of Austrian Thomas Jger from the Performance Racing team, who was forced to retire from the first race and pushed forward from the 14th to the third place in an impressive stint.
Suspense in the Trophy ranking It hardly ever happens but he succeeded. Sebastian Balthasar from Cologne took the pole position for the GU-Racing team in his Dallara F311 Mercedes. However, the reversed grid rule did not really help him. The 16-year old quickly dropped to the end of the field and also received a drive-through penalty for a jump start as well as a 30-second time penalty for the fastest sector time under yellow flags. His team-mate, Freddy Killensberger from Wortelstetten, was not able to start his Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge and was forced to start from the pit lane. Contesting for the TTCmotorsport team, Hubertus-Carlos Vier from Inching won the Trophy ranking in his Dallara F307 Mercedes.
John Bryant-Meisner: It feels really good. I had a good start at the beginning but I messed up at the first corner a little bit. I really wanted to win so I pushed a lot.Artem Markelov: That was a great race with very strong race drivers. I am really happy and I want to thank the team.Thomas Jager: We did a good job with the car considering the short time, we found a great set-up, the power was back and therefore I was able to overtake the others.Hubertus-Carlos Vier: This feels really good because everything is new to me. The first wet race, the first Formula 3 race - that requires a lot more concentration.
