The Italian Vita4One Team Italy squad is confident of a change of fortunes this weekend (5/6 May) as it prepares for its maiden visit to the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby for the second round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the first two-hour race of the season.
Following two challenging 60-minute races at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend, the Milanese team heads to a circuit that has proved to be a fruitful place for Ferrari teams to take points in previous years, looking to make up lost ground and get its championship challenge back on track.Rockingham has given Ferrari reason to celebrate in previous years; a second place in 2012, and an outstanding 1-2-3 in race two of 2011, mean that despite the team having never raced at the punishing part-oval track before, confidence is high.In 2011, Jay Palmer raced in British GT at Rockingham and has good memories of the races, but the British racer is happy to be on the longer '2.56 mile International Long' layout that plays host to the top national GT series this weekend.Double FIA GT Champion Matteo Bobbi continues his education in UK national circuits at Rockingham and proved to be a quick learner at Outlon Park. The Italian is looking forward to the race this weekend, again on a circuit he's visited only for testing.Round two of the 2013 British GT season takes place at Rockingham on Sunday and Monday this weekend. TV coverage of the race will be show on Channel 4 and Motors TV the following Saturday, with www.britishgt.com featuring live text commentary of all sessions.Mauro Felisatti, Team Manager:After a tough first two races we go to Rockingham confident. There was a lot of accidents and situations that were out of our control there, but both drivers showed they have good pace. We had a good test at Rockingham and we're looking to get some good results and points here this weekend."Matteo Bobbi, Team Principal and Driver:"We came here for two days after the first race, but the weather was very cold and the grip level was very low. We were able to learn from the test and come here well prepared. It should be a good race for us, the car is very reliable and I hope we come out on top."Jay Palmer, Driver:"I'm really looking forward to this weekend," said Palmer. "The car is well balanced and should be in a position to be very competitive and I'm confident of a good result. We learnt a lot from the first weekend, the team are very strong on pitstops and I need to be a bit more patient. Matteo was super, and I have every confidence he will do a stellar job this weekend, we've just got to be sensible."Schedule (All times BST):Sunday, May 5, 2013:Free Practice 1: 10:00 am11:00 amFree Practice 2: 12:25 pm1:25 pmQualifying: 4:20 pm4:50 pmMonday, May 6, 2013:Warm up: 10:30 am - 10:40 am (All Classes)Race 1: 1:05 pm - 3:05 pm (2 hour)British GT TV Broadcast:Channel 4: Highlights, Saturday May 11th, 7:00 am7:30 amMotors TV: Highlights, Saturday May 11th 5:25 pm6:25 pm
