Joe Collier riding on the Team Haribo Starmix Triumph had an eventful weekend at round three of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship at Oulton Park this weekend and eventually finished the 14-lap race in 4th place.
The youngster from Leicester had a good weekend and had to fight hard for his position; he was lying in second place over the finish line but was unfortunately allocated a five second penalty for gaining a time advantage after missing his braking point into the chicane, which forced him to go straight on.
Collier qualified on the second row in sixth place for the race and gaining a good start he was eager to get another podium and was locked in a tight and exciting battle with James Lodge and Luke Hedger for second place. Running in too hot into Hizzy's chicane he had to let off the brakes and run straight on which eventually lost him the podium place.
Joe Collier - "Well that was an eventful day and weekend, we had a couple of problems with the bike during qualifying and we didn't get as much track time as we would have liked. I'm pleased with the result and understand why I got the penalty it was my own fault and if I didn't run on it would have been an accident so it was my only choice.
I qualified in sixth place which I was pretty happy with and here is one of my favourite tracks and I was able to get a good start and away with the front runners. I knew I had to make some passes as I wanted to get onto the podium I was really good into the chicane but I made a couple of mistakes into there and one I ran on and re-joined but gained time so I was given a five second penalty.
Despite that I really enjoyed the race I was setting some good times and felt really happy on the bike and despite liking this track it's not been on my side in the past so it's good to go away from here with some more good Championship points and I'm looking forward to racing at Donington in a few weeks in front of the World Superbike crowd."
