Round 2: Pirelli Historic Rally, 4 May

Welsh youngsters Gareth James and Steffan Evans won the Pirelli Historic Rally despite it being only their second ever forest event and first visit to Kielder.

The Ford Escort Mk2 crew also took their second consecutive win in Category Three and now share the championship lead with Rikki Proffitt and navigator Phill Harrison. Richard Hill and co-driver Pat Cooper took second overall and the Category Two win ahead of David Stokes and Guy Weaver.

Two typical Kielder challenges, deer and ditches, affected the Category One result. Proffitt and Harrison built an early lead but came close to disaster when they hit a deer on stage five. However they held on when their closest challenger, Dessie Nutt, slid into a ditch and lost over two minutes.
