Will the cards be reshuffled at the second racing weekend of the ATS Formula 3 Cup or will the current championship leader and Lotus driver, Marvin Kirchhfer, leave everybody else behind again. Friday's qualifying session at the 7.004-km Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps set the course for the three races of the weekend. Marvin Kirchhfer gets to start in pole position again tomorrow, but it was not easy. Contesting for the ADAC Team Nordbayern, Hubertus-Carlos Vier set the fastest time in the Trophy ranking of the ATS Formula 3 Cup.
Initially wet due to drizzle, the track dried almost completely during the 30-minute qualifying session. American driver Gustavo Menezes, who contests for the Van Amersfoort Racing team, set the fastest lap at first. However, a short while later, Lotus driver Marvin Kirchhofer from Leipzig did better, setting the fastest time (2:11.772 minutes) in the ninth lap. His team-mate, British driver Emil Bernstorff, pushed hard but had to settle for the second start position in the end, setting 2:11.939. Swedish driver John Bryant-Meisner from Performance Racing secured the third position in 2:12.064. Menezes placed fourth in the end (2:12.456 minutes).
Marvin Kirchhofer will start in both the first and third race of this weekend in the pole position, due to the fact that the 19-year old also set the second fastest time of all drivers contesting the ATS Formula 3 Cup.
Repositioned Trophy grid Hubertus-Carlos Vier from Inching, who contests for the ADAC Team Nordbayern, called the shots in the Trophy ranking of the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The technical issues of the first racing weekend were obviously fixed. Setting a lap time of 2:17.381, he left the GU-Racing team-mates Freddy Killensberger (2:17.820) and Sebastian Balthasar (2:18.555) behind in the second and third place of the Trophy ranking.
Marvin Kirchhofer: My team-mate Emil Bernstorff is extremely strong this weekend. We set the pace at the top. And I succeeded which I am very happy about. However, the weekend will be very tough. I am excited to see how it will work out. Emil Bernstorff: I had a few problems with the brake but got out the most of the tyres. It worked out better than I would have expected. I set a great time! The weather was interesting. But the track was pretty dry after the first lap.John Bryant-Meisner: I set a good time. The car ran very well. The qualifying was very good for me. Third place is alright.Hubertus-Carlos Vier: We were really able to modify the set-up this time. The gearbox was damaged in Oschersleben and as a result the car lacked rigidity. This made it difficult for us. And the track is great.
