ATS Formel 3 Cup victory for John Bryant-Meisner

The main question before the second race of today was what tyres would be the right choice. Rain brought chaos with sunshine following and vice versa. The sun came out in time for the start of the sprint race but did not dry the track completely. Local hero Jordi Weckx, who contests for the Van Amersfoort Racing team, was the pole-sitter due to the reversed-grid format in the second race. Contesting for Performance Racing, John Bryant-Meisner secured the victory in the rain gamble at Spa; Freddy Killensberger (GU-Racing) won the Trophy ranking again.

Maximilian Hackl (Franz Wss Racing / Dallara F307 Volkswagen) and John Bryant-Meisner (Performance Racing / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) were the only drivers to rely on slick tyres, which proved to be a good choice for the Swede in the end. The Lotus team had a good start. Grabbing the lead right away, Artem Markelov (Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) was able to defend it for a long time ahead of his team-mate Emil Bernstorff (Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) and Yannick Mettler (Performance Racing / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine). The Swiss collided with Nabil Jeffri (Eurointernational / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine), which resulted in an early retirement for him. The winner of this morning's race, Marvin Kirchhfer (Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) carved his way through the field from start position eight to the third place. Bryant-Meisner took the lead in a phenomenal overtaking manoeuvre shortly before the end of the race and still managed to break away from the field. Bernstorff and Kirchhfer fought tough battles behind him. Kirchhfer drove across the finish line in third place, Markelov in second. Bryant-Meisner won the tyre gamble in the end.

Another podium place for KillensbergerThe winner in the Trophy ranking of the first race in the morning secured the top place on the podium again in this race. Freddy Killensberger (GU-Racing / Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) broke away from the field, leaving Hubertus-Carlos Vier (ADAC Team Nordbayern / Dallara F307 Mercedes) behind in the second place and Maximilian Hackl from Ruderting in third.

John Bryant-Meisner: Only one thing mattered today. Everybody else chose rain tyres but I said that we should use slick tyres. It paid off in the end and I am really happy about my victory.Artem Markelov: The race was easy, but then John managed to overtake me. I want to thank my team. They did a great job. My second place is very good.Marvin Kirchhfer: I did not want to take too many risks. The goal was to score a lot of points. We should have chosen slick tyres too, but I made the decision. Still, Im very happy.Freddy Killensberger: I had a great start and was able to break away from the other Trophy drivers. I also had a few battles with Cup cars. It was a lot of fun.
