Isaac Tutumlu, the driver from Barcelona, but with Kurdish heritage, became the first driver from Kurdistan finishing on the podium of an international championship, after his 3rd place in the Spanish Iber GT championship today. He was 4th in GTS class of the International GT Open as well.
In the morning, during the qualifying session, Dimitris Deverikos was 13th fastest in GTS driving the Autorlando Sport Porsche 997 GT3 R shared with Tutumlu. The Greek driver also started the race and from the beginning managed to overtake several drivers before pitting.
Our result wasnt excessively brilliant, because Dimitris had to cope with set-up problems. But his race pace was good and overtook a good number of car previous to my stint, Tutumlu explained afterwards, also saying that when I was back on track, I was fighting even with Super GT cars, really quick. Unfortunately, heat was an important problem to deal with, and my tires overheated so, at the end, my pace got worse and I was passed by a Mercedes. Anyway 4th place in GTS class of the GT Open is a great result for us and, of course, 3rd among drivers counting towards the Spanish Iber GT championship is even better!
My fastest lap was around two tenths slower than the best one, so I think our chances are there for tomorrow.
Race two is scheduled today, and its start is going to be at noon consisting of 50 minutes. Tutumlu will qualify the car and start the race.
