In the first race of the Portimao weekend the Italian pair clinched pole position, fastest lap and second place at the wheel of the Ferrari 458 GT2
Portimao (Portugal), May 11, 2013. It was a brilliant Saturday for Villorba Corse in the second GT Open round at Portimao. The Venetian team lead by Raimondo Amadio jumped on top of the overall standings thanks to a second-place finish in race-1 by Andrea Montermini and Luca Filippi at the wheel of the powerful Ferrari 458 GT2. This result is very important for the championship mainly because a very high time handicap had to be paid during the mandatory pit-stop because of their great results scored at the Paul Ricard's seasonal debut two weeks ago.Today's Villorba Corse race started from pole position thanks to a stunning qualifying lap by Filippi, who then has kept the lead until the driver change. Despite a double deployment of the safety car in the first part of the race, the young Italian driver from Cuneo managed to build a big gap on his rivals also setting the fastest lap (1'44"875). After mid-race Montermini was able to get back on track in fifth place but not so far from podium positions, so that the former F1 driver from Modena could secure the second place overall after a stunning series of overtaking.
Today's race-2 is to be held at 11:55 (local time) and will be broadcasted live on www.gtopen.net(clicking on WEB TV). Villorba Corse will not be able to line up Filippi because of his job commitments. So Montermini will face the whole race alone.
It is a very consistent result - says Amadio, Team Principal -. Without those safety cars we could have won. But we had a very fast pace throughout the race and everything was fine: that is the most important thing. Perfect the drivers, great the guys in the pits. We are happy and we are hoping for another good race tomorrow. It will not be easy but we are ready to fight.
