Started from the back of the grid at the wheel of the Ferrari 458 GT2 the fast Italian driver clinched a stunning third place in race-2 of the second GT Open round
A stunning Sunday's performance for the Villorba Corse Ferrari 458 GT2 in Portimao. In race-2 of the second International GT Open round Andrea Montermini showed all of his talent clinching an incredible podium. The former F1 driver from Modena was able to grab a very important third place for the championship despite he had to start the race from the back of the grid and to pay a 40-second handicap as the team led by Raimondo Amadio could not line up Luca Filippi (job commitments for him) with whom Andrea finished second in Saturday's race-1. Therefore in race-2 Montermini had to race as a fury doing a stunning series of overtaking and setting a lot of fast laps to be able to take the second podium of the Portuguese weekend, the fourth out of four races for Villorba in 2013.
Andrea was fantastic - says team principal Amadio -. He is a champion and the team was perfect. We are very happy also because we are showing the value of working hard despite the difficulties. And now we are ready to have Fillippi with us again for the next round at the Nurburgring.
The whole team did a great job today - says Montermini -. We had to be careful not to damage the car in the early laps, when the traffic was crazy, and to stay concentrated while in the final stages of the race it was getting so hot inside the cockpit! It was tough, but I had a lot of fun.
