SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey has added his congratulations following Great Britain star Tai Woffinden’s stunning victory in Saturday’s Czech Republic Grand Prix.
Woffinden was born in Scunthorpe and started his professional speedway career with the club, racing for the Scorpions at Conference League level in 2006-07.
Godfrey said: “Everybody at Scunthorpe Speedway offers their congratulations to Tai, and we hope that it’s the first of many Grand Prix wins for him.
“We’re so proud that a lad born in this town, who also started his UK racing career at Scunthorpe, is doing such a great job representing Great Britain in the World Championship. He’s just a point behind the championship leader (Emil Sayfutdinov), so who knows what the rest of the season could bring for him.”

MAGNUS Karlsson scored a paid maximum as Leicester overcame a Workington comeback to defeat the Comets 53-40 in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
Karlsson and skipper Kauko Nieminen were in top form for the Lions, who took maximum points from the meeting to move into the top six in the league table.
Leicester co-promoter Alan Jones said: “We were in a comfortable position until the Comets gained an 8-1 in Heat 12 which reduced our lead to a slender three points, but we recovered well to outscore the visitors. Kauko was back to his very best after the knock at Somerset earlier this month and Magnus was unbeatable with a paid fifteen points.
“The new reserve partnership of Robert Branford and Alex Edberg came through their home debut with a lot of credit as the track was as much an away circuit for them as for the Workington riders.”

PLYMOUTH boss David Short is threatening to make changes after a 51-42 defeat at home to Edinburgh on Saturday.
The Monarchs completed a quickfire double having defeated the Devils 56-36 at Armadale 24-hours earlier, with Craig Cook (13+1) and Theo Pijper (10) leading the way at the St Boniface Arena.
Short said: “It was a very disappointing result and we will be reviewing the situation.
“We have to be winning our home matches and we will be looking to strengthen the side sooner rather than later.”

NATHAN Greaves took victory in the 500cc class in the second round of the British Youth Championship at Rye House on Saturday.
The Dudley youngster won the senior section ahead of Reece Downes and Michael Neale, with Lewis Whitmore (250cc) and Kyle Bickley (125cc) victorious in the Finals of the remaining classes.
GB Youth co-boss Neil Vatcher said: “It was a very eventful meeting, and there were some very good races. All three categories were very competitive, and you couldn’t really pick a winner in any of the Finals beforehand. It was exciting to the end.”
Rye House promoter Len Silver added: “It is so very important to support these lads. They are the future of the business, and from what we’ve seen here tonight the business is in really good hands.”

ADAM Roynon has targeted a comeback date of June 2 and a place in Kauko Nieminen’s Testimonial meeting at Leicester.
Roynon was involved in an horrific crash when racing for Coventry on Good Friday, which left him with head injuries, but he has received the all-clear from specialists and expects to begin practising in the near future.
Nieminen said: “We are all really pleased that Adam has no lasting injury and that he is hoping to be back soon.
“My Testimonial meeting is an ideal opportunity for him to ease his way back into the sport and I had no hesitation in asking him if he wanted to ride in my ‘Select’ team to face Leicester.”
