Second Win for Collier
Joe Collier riding on the Team Haribo Starmix Triumph had a great weekend at Donington Park and took his second win of the season in a very dramatic race. After the bad weather on Friday Joe was keen to get a good qualifying session under his belt and that he did setting pole position.
He got a good start and was leading into turn one, whilst everyone was trying to find their feet and settle down Joe was pushed back to fourth after lap two and everyone was fighting for position. The safety car was deployed on lap six to clear some debris on the track from an accident bunching the pack together.
As the flag dropped Joe was eager to make the most of the final two laps and took some daring moves to eventually take the final win in a very close fought battle. Joe left his move to the Melbourne Loop on the final lap and made a brave move on Hedger to take the lead and the win.
Joe Collier - "I'm so pleased with the win today, it's my local round and to do it here was awesome in front of the World Superbike crowd. After the weather on Friday I was beginning to wonder what the rest of the weekend would have in store but thankfully everything turned out really good and the sun was shining and it produced some really good racing in all classes.
It was great to take pole yesterday and the Haribo Starmix team worked really hard all weekend so it was nice to repay them with that and also the overall win. I got a mega start and then got in a tussle with a couple of other riders for third place, we were having some really good battles but Luke (Hedger) was bridging a gap on me and I wanted to try and close that down.
The safety car did play into my hands and it bunched us all close together, I didn't realise it would only be a two lap sprint so I really had to make sure of any moves that I made. We were all wanting the win and we were swapping positions at most corners and I knew I had to try and do something into the loop. It was so close going in but I knew I could pull it tight and finally managed to take the lead and hold off the others into the final turn.
I'm so pleased and closed the Championship points back down again, I can't wait to get to Knockhill and hope we can get some similar results there."
