First Stop Hull for New P1 Race Season

All roads lead to Hull this week for the country's P1 SuperStock racers and AquaX jet ski riders as the 2013 UK Championships take to the water on the River Humber at the weekend. Now in its third year, the Hull Grand Prix of the Sea has become a favourite event for both racers and fans, and big crowds are expected to line St. Andrews Quay for the two days of free-to-watch, high-speed action.

There will be considerable local interest in both race series, with an imaginative buy-a-boat campaign in the East Humberside area resulting in local businesses combining to fund the One Hull Of A Boat team for the whole of the 10-race SuperStock season, and AquaX riders Steve Robinson from Hedon and Hull's Adrian Wilson aiming for podium places in the 20-strong field.

Beverley-born John Wilson won in Hull two years ago on his way to becoming SuperStock champion and he will be looking for a repeat performance in his Pertemps-backed Panther boat to kick off his 2013 title challenge. "East Yorkshire is my home county" said John "and I love coming back to race on the Humber, which could prove to be a very challenging course as strong winds are forecast. Who knows, with Hull City winning promotion to the Premier League this could be a memorable year of sporting success for the region."

The P1 racers and riders will be finalising their preparations on the river on Friday, with official practice scheduled for Saturday morning:
