At the wheel of the Ferrari 458 the Villorba Corse crew won race-1 of the third 2013 GT Open roundPole position, victory and fastest lap for Andrea Montermini and Luca Filippi on the Villorba Corse Ferrari 458 at the Nurburgring, where the Italian team dominated race-1 of the third International GT Open round. An exciting day started with two qualifying in mid-afternoon as in the morning GT Open timetable was affected by a thick fog.
That was not a problem for Montermini who then qualified his Ferrari in first position and dominated the first part of race-1, when the former F.1 driver from Modena has built a major gap over his opponents also thanks to the fastest lap of the race. This advantage, despite a very high time handicap to be paid during the mandatory pit-stop, allowed Filippi to get back on track in third place with 20 minutes to go.
The talented GP2 winner started to push hard and after two thrilling overtaking he took the lead allowing the whole team to celebrate the second win of the season (fifth podium out of fifth race).
What a race, we are very happy - says Amadio, Team Principal -. It was difficult to choose the right setup after two very tight qualifying. The track conditions were also a lot different compared to yesterday's free practice under the rain. Our guys did a great job on the car, the strategy was perfect and our talented drivers did the rest. In race-2 we will try to be careful and to think about the championship.
