Lloyd delighted with double Carrera Cup podium

Daniel Lloyd produced two faultless race performances at his home track, Oulton Park Island Circuit, over the weekend, 8th/9th June, to secure a fantastic double podium and edge closer to the coveted top three in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship standings.Chalking up his fourth and fifth rostrum finishes of 2013 by finishing second to current series leader, and reigning champion, Michael Meadows in rounds seven and eight, the Huddersfield 21-year-old is now a mere nine points shy of third in the title race. Daniel was also the recipient of the Michelin Award this weekend, winning a free set of tyres courtesy of the categorys official tyre partner.Beginning Sunday afternoons live televised race from second on the grid, after an ultra-consistent performance in qualifying, Daniel made a good start to maintain position. After seeing off the attentions of the battling Rory Butcher and Dean Stoneman, he settled into a rhythm and pulled three seconds clear by the finish. While bright sunshine and warm temperatures may have been pleasant for the tens of thousands of race goers who packed into the Cheshire venue, the heat made conditions inside the cars incredibly uncomfortable meaning maintaining focus and concentration was a major factor.I cant explain how hard the race was, how hot it was, said the Team Parker Racing driver, At the end it was all about just keeping the car on the track, it was very hard work. Im not going to lie, my concentration did drop over the last couple of laps as the heat in the car was really intense it was that hot I had sweat dropping in my eyes. Two podiums from the weekend is really good for our championship, [Dean] Stoneman and [Jonas] Gelzinis havent had a fantastic weekend so weve been able to claw them in a bit. Theres plenty of time left, lots of races to go in this championship, and now I cant wait to be back out there at Croft. For Saturdays seventh round, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar started the encounter third on the grid and held position early on before climbing into second on lap three at the expense of Jonas Gelzinis the Lithuanian suffering a puncture.

Making the most of his elevation into the top two, Daniel set off after race leader Meadows and from being two seconds adrift of the 2012 champion at the beginning of lap eight, he managed to get within 0.8 seconds of him before the finish on lap 18. Notably, Daniels best lap of the race was just 0.1 seconds shy of the quickest of all a marked improvement from qualifying. When we were eight tenths off the pace in practice on Friday we wondered where the time was, then we were still a chunk off in qualifying, explained Daniel, We had the race pace though, the car was very, very good in both races this weekend so a big thanks to everyone at Team Parker. We had some fantastic support this weekend from our guests and sponsors, there were over 60 people cheering us on so a massive thanks to all of them. It was great to get such a good result in front of them all.Croft Circuit near Darlington in North Yorkshire, Daniels second home venue, will host rounds nine and 10 of the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship a fortnight from now on 22nd/23rd June.Visit www.daniellloydracing.com for all the latest news and follow him on Twitter @Daniellloyd23
