In summerly conditions, spectators got to see a thrilling qualifying for the fourth DTM round of the season at Lausitzring on Saturday. In the battle for pole position, the competition tyres from premium manufacturer Hankook once again supported all the DTM drivers with a lot of grip and a high level of consistency. In spite of the slick and fine-poored track surface, the Ventus Race particularly provided the necessary traction in the infield section, enabling the drivers to accelerate optimally out of the slow sections every time. Christian Vietoris will be starting the race from first place at the Lausitzring on Sunday. The Mercedes-Benz driver came out on top in qualifying and thus claimed the first pole position of his DTM career. His fellow Mercedes-Benz driver Gary Paffett will be lining up next to him on the front row of the grid. In the third qualifying heat, the Brit drove the outright fastest time of the day at the Lausitzring DTM circuit in 1:17.463 minutes. A driving error in the final heat cost him first place. In third position, Jamie Green was the best-placed Audi driver in qualifying while Robert Wickens ended up fourth as another Mercedes-Benz driver. Thus, the car manufacturer from Stuttgart made an impressive comeback in the most popular international touring car series and can make up ground on the competition in the race on Sunday. Bruno Spengler (BMW), the leader in the drivers standings, came one hundredth of a second short of making it into the final qualifying heat and was classified fifth. Mike Rockenfeller (Audi), runner-up in the points, will be starting from sixth place alongside the Canadian into the race on Sunday.Christian Vietoris (Mercedes-Benz): I am happy, I havent had such a car in qualifying for a long time. I had a lot of grip and was able to do with the car whatever I wanted. We have been working hard and I hope for the same pace as in the last race. We have to keep the option tyre alive as long as possible, because it is even faster than the base-line slick tyre.Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz): Second place is a great result, because it has been quite tough for me so far, especially in qualifying. In the third heat, everything went perfectly, but in the final stint, unfortunately, I lost a little bit of time. However, I am very happy that we have made it with three cars in the top four. In the race, we have to use the Hankook option tyre in the right way.Jamie Green (Audi): My set-up of the car is very good for this track and will also be all right for the race tomorrow. Of course, I hope for a win, but it is difficult to say how things will go with the option tyres, because the balance of the car has been adjusted for the base-line slick tyres. But it is the same for everybody and that is what makes the situation in the DTM so interesting.
