Top UK Formula Student team sets the pace for this years competition

Engineering students at the University of Hertfordshire have unveiled their most technologically advanced car to date in a bid to defend their title as top UK Formula Student team and climb to the top of the podium in the international competition. Currently ranked 23rd in the world out of more than 500 teams around the worldthe competition is really on!

With the help of Craig Scarborough, F1 journalist and illustrator, UH Racing, part of the School of Engineering and Technology launched their latest car this week, ahead of the British leg of the competition which takes place at Silverstone between 3-7 July.

Dr Howard Ash, senior lecturer, University of Hertfordshire, said: Being named the top UK team last year just showcased the enormous talent and knowledge base our final year masters and undergraduate students have to create and race such a technically advanced car.  This year we have our work cut out for us as we are not only defending our title, but want to win the competition outright.

Formula Student sees teams from across the world design, engineer and manufacture racing models. UH Racing will this year enter a single combustion car in both the 2013 Formula Student and Formula Student Germany competitions.

UH Racing team leader, Dan Spicer, said: I am fortunate to lead a team of young talented engineers who have worked tirelessly since last September to produce this year's challenger, UH16. We are currently preparing for our first event at Silverstone and our target is to build on the success of UH Racing at past competitions, with the single aim to win!
