Andy Richardson aims to ener Formula Ford summer break on a high

Andy Richardson is targeting a return to the overall podium places this weekend when the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain heads to Croft for the fifth round of the season.

The South Lincolnshire-based 21-year-old goes into the event sitting eighth in the championship standings following an encouraging start to his single-seater career, and is just 21 points away from a place inside the top sixhaving already picked up two podium finishes in the twelve races run to date.

Andy is also fourth in the Scholarship class, having secured a pair of top three finishes in class last time out at Oulton Park.

Following the Oulton Park meeting, Andy headed to Mallory Park to carry out a much-needed test in his Ford EcoBoost-powered Mygale, marking the first opportunity that the Richardson Racing team had had to run the car outside of a race weekend.

Having gained further knowledge of the single-seater machine during the course of the test, Andy now heads to Croft seeking to add to his podium tally although the chance of rain throughout the weekend could make it something of a step into the unknown for both driver and team.

There were a few things that we were able to learn from the test that will hopefully help us this weekend, and through the remainder of the season, Andy said. For a start, we made some changes to the car that have given us a much more stable base and there are a few things that we will now look at when we get to Croft.

It looks like it is going to be wet this weekend and we havent run the car in proper wet conditions, so we need to learn as much as we can in testing and then see how we get on. Hopefully the rain will be a bit of a leveller and will allow us to push forward and try to challenge [Dan] Cammish at the front.

The aim is to try and make sure we come away from the weekend with some more podium finishes but its difficult to make too many predictions because of our lack of wet running. If things go our way, maybe we could take our first victory, but Ill be pushing hard to make sure we go into the summer break on a high.
