Gai trumps opposition in Le Mans Ferrari Challenge Qualifying

By far the best performance for Ferrari Challenge qualifying came from experienced GT driver Stefano Gai posting a time of 4:05.962 more than a second ahead of his nearest rival Philipp Baron with a time of 4:07.036. Qualifying third in the Trofeo Pirelli category was Ferrari Challenge North America driver Jeff Segal with a competitive 4:07.451due to grid penalties received for success in earlier races it will actually be Segal who leads the grid away from pole position. In the Coppa Shell category the bets time was recorded by David Gostner with a 4:11.686. Vincenzo Sauto was second and Sossio del Prete third.

The qualifying session was full of drama, least not when Massimiliano Bianchi suffered a small fire at the start of qualifying - this was enough to keep him out of qualifying, meaning he will start on the back row of the grid, but not to prevent him racing tomorrow. Drama as well struck Daniel Mancinelli when he made contact with the wall meaning he took no meaningful part in qualifyinghe will start at the back of the grid.

The session was effectively curtailed with 15 minutes to run due to a storm hitting the top of the Mulsanne Straight but leaving the rest of the circuit unaffected. Not as unusual an event as it sounds on this circuit that runs for almost 14km.

The Ferrari Challenge will take to the grid on Saturday morning at 11:15.
