The GP3 Series will roar back into action this weekend for Round 3 at the Northamptonshire circuit in Silverstone giving the large army of local supporters their first chance to hear the new GP3/13 cars in all their glory.A few weeks ago Valencia hosted Round 2 of the season in very hot conditions. Several red flags in qualifying saw a flurry of activity in the fight for pole and it was ART Grand Prixs Conor Daly who claimed P1, in which he turned into a lights to flag victory on Sunday. The American led home his teammate Facu Regalia with a one-two for the French squad with Kevin Korjus in third. The second race of the day saw MW Ardens Robert Visoiu start from reverse pole which he converted into his maiden win in the category. Koiranen GPs Aaro Vainio finished second with rookie Carlos Sainz taking his first podium in the Series and delighting the Spanish fans. Its tight at the top of the Drivers Standings with Marussia Manor Racings Tio Ellinas on 55 points, with a slender four point advantage over Conor Daly. Vainio is on 43. In the Team Standings, its also a close affair with ART Grand Prix leading the way on 84, Marussia Manor Racing on 80 and MW Arden on 63.This year GP3 have seven British drivers in the campaign eager to please their home fans. Jack Harvey, Nick Yelloly, Ryan Cullen, Dino Zamparelli, Josh Webster, Lewis Williamson and Melville McKee will be flying the flag on home soil in the hopes of making it a British winner two years on the trot after William Buller was victorious here in 2012 for Carlin. The weather gods appear to be kind to GP3 this weekend with the unlikely forecast of mostly dry and warm conditions for the three-day race weekend. The 5.891km circuit is one drivers know well from testing and enjoy racing at high speeds. This will be the first time the Super Hard Pirelli tyre has been used for a race weekend.Pirellis racing manager Mario Isola commented: Were set for another busy weekend with the GP3 crews using the new super hard tyre for the first time in competition. The new GP3 car this season is a lot faster than first anticipated and after analysing the data we have reacted accordingly. Thanks to its increased durability, the new super hard compound will be ideally suited for Silverstone but tyre management will still be an important consideration. With the likes of GP3 drivers such as Tio Ellinas testing a Formula One car recently, it is becoming increasingly important to allow the drivers in our feeder series an even bigger chance to go closer to the limit..
