Croft next for GT3 Cup Challenge GB

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Challenge GB heads north to Croft in North Yorkshire on Saturday 6 July for the third of six double-header meetings for the fabulous 420bhp racing Porsches as used in the Carrera Cup GB up to 2009. Just two weeks after the Carrera Cup GB was in action at the challenging track, it is the turn of the GT3 Cup Challenge field to tackle Croft and it is Justin Sherwood (Team Parker Racing) who has a firm grip on the series just now with four wins from the opening four races at Donington Park and Snetterton. The former British F3 racer heads towards the middle of the season with a 10-point lead over team mate Steven Liquorish, but with 20 points on offer for a race win, it could all change very quickly. Equally, if Sherwood takes another double success, he will make himself very hard to beat over the second half of the season.Liquorish is one of the most experienced Porsche racers in the championship and has now finished second to Sherwood four times on the bounce this season, a sequence he will be very keen to halt at Croft.Competing with locally-based Redline Racing and also heading for his home race is Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher (Oldham), who has made a big jump up the racing ladder this season but showed excellent pace at Donington Park to open his campaign with a visit to the podium. The experience gained in his four Porsche races to date should serve him well at Croft. The revelation of the opening two events has been racing newcomer Peter Kyle-Henney who has now bagged a hat-trick of podiums for Parr Motorsport. Having only previously taken part in track days and speed events, Kyle-Henney raced superbly and battled with Liquorish at Donington Park race before settling for an impressive third. Back for a second season in the GT3 Cup Challenge is another local racer in the form of Harrogate-based Guy Riall (Almara Racing). He will be eager to put his local knowledge to good effect in pursuit of his first racing podium.Qualifying at Croft starts at 10.00 on Saturday, with the 25-minute races scheduled for 14.35 and 17.00. The action can be followed on the new Porsche Cars GB Trackside motorsport web platform at porscheracinggb.porsche.com
