GP2 reaches halfway point in Germany

The sixth round of the 2013 GP2 Series takes place this weekend in Germany at the Nurburgring. It was just a short week ago that the season saw another triumph for Sam Bird and RUSSIAN TIME in Silverstone: the Brit recovered from a slow start to take the lead at Turn 2. His perfect pit stop strategy meant that hed pocket a third win this season. He is now lying third in the drivers standings whilst title rivals Stefano Coletti and Felipe Nasr had their worse race weekend of the season. Both men failed to see the finish line on Saturday. The following day, Nasr put his head down from P25 on the starting grid to seventh at the chequered flag. But Sundays race was all about Jon Lancaster who controlled the rest of the pack from start to finish and offered newcomers Hilmer Motorsport their second win of their maiden season. Rio Haryanto finished second and enjoyed his first ever GP2 podium, whilst James Calado finished third and thus offered ART Grand Prix their 100th GP2 podium.GP2 is back to Nurburgring this year for the halfway mark of the 2013 season. The title race is heating up with Coletti comfortably leading on 120 points, but Nasr showed in Great Britain that he will never give up and will be looking for a long-awaited maiden GP2 win in Germany to reduce the gap of twenty-two points to the Monegasque driver. Bird of course seems to be the strongest man at the moment with two back-to-back Feature Race win. Will Germany see his hat trick? Fabio Leimer is currently fourth in the standings: the Swiss drivers season had started brilliantly with two wins in the first two feature races, but since then, Leimer left every track empty-handed. He finally scored points last Saturday to keep his title hopes alive. Add to this list Calado whose season has been challenging so far, but whose fighting spirit is never down and you end up with what promises to be another GP2 classic!Pirelli have selected Medium and Super Soft tyres for this round.
