Michael Christensen's and DAMS's appetite for success is insatiable! Exactly a week after their first top-3 finish they upped their game and scored their first victory in the Porsche Supercup. This is a resounding success for a team that's new to the championship, and to cap everything it was on German soil! By setting his first pole in qualifying the Danish driver gave a hint of what was to come, while his team-mate Richie Stanaway set an encouraging seventh-quickest time.
On the undulating Eifel layout Michael Christensen drove a faultless race and finished 1.6 seconds in front of his fellow-countryman, Nick Thiim, without ever being in serious danger. The Porsche Junior driver's result has given him a big boost in the overall classification as he is now lying fourth overall within a stone's throw of the leaders. Even though he lost a few places during the race Richie Stanaway is still third in the rookie ratings behind his team leader and Ben Barker. Thanks to this overall excellent result DAMS has taken third place in the teams' championship and is tackling the races to come with reinforced confidence.
Franois Sicard, Managing Director: "It's great when everything goes your way so nothing to add. I'm delighted for the team, which once again showed its remarkable know-how. A victory after only four races is really something! We're on a very positive roll at the moment and we have to continue to take advantage of it. Congratulations to Michael Christensen, who was simply fantastic all weekend. Richie Stanaway deserved much better than tenth place. He just lacks a little bit of race craft in this very particular championship and I'm convinced that he'll soon be a regular top-five contender."
Michael Christensen: "It's fantastic! I'm over the moon because of my first victory in the Porsche Supercup! First of all I'd like to thank the team as my car was perfect all weekend. I made a good start and after that it all seemed pretty easy. I was able to open up a comfortable gap and I still had a little in reserve when the others got closer. Now that I've tasted it for the first time, I'm determined to get back on this step of the podium in every race!"
Richie Stanaway:"I'm not very satisfied with the final result. Although I was fairly happy with qualifying I still have a few problems with these door-to-door battles in the races. The car was good but it's very close in the pack and the competition is very physical! Congratulations to Michael, it's great for the team. I hope to get stuck in the battle among the front-runners very soon."
