Vittorio Ghirelli hits the top in Mugello AutoGP test

Vittorio Ghirelli was the fastest man on-track in the first two free sessions for the Auto GP championship round at Mugello. The Italian racer, fielded by Super Nova International, logged the fastest mark of the day in 1'34"676 during the second hour and topped his team-mate, Indian Narain Karthikeyan, by 0.347s.The British squad's pair was followed by Romanian Robert Visoiu (Ghinzani Motorsport) who was followed by the two current frontrunners of the series in reverse order, with Sergio Campana (Ibiza Racing Team) topping Kimiya Sato (Euronova Racing) in fourth.Kevin Giovesi, who was retained by Ghinzani after his debut podium at Silverstone, ended up in 6th in front of MP Motorsport's Daniel De Jong, while Tamas Pal Kiss, running for Zele Racing, sneaked amidst the Dutch team's two drivers by edging Meindert Van Buuren. Making his debut in the series was Austrian former F.1 driver Christian Klien, driving for Zele Racing.

I'm still getting the right confidence with the car - said Klien - It's been an huge jump being back to an open-wheel car after so many years, and the main difference is definitely the braking. Lap after lap I'm merging with this car which is pretty demanding to control. Compared to the other racers I drove until now, it doesn't have any driver aid starting from powersteering, and physically it's particularly tough. I'm satisfied with the work done as we didn't experience any issue nor put new tires on. I'm looking forward to the rest of the weekend"Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK) also enjoyed a top-10 ride while Francesco Dracone, running in his home race, is preparing to keep the Ibiza Racing Team banner high on Race Day.
