Strong home form puts Bentley-Ellis in S1 Frame

RL Racing Departments Hugo Bentley-Ellis capitalised on his teams home advantage to put himself in the mix for overall title honours at PFi (29/30 June).

Hugo Bentley-Ellis and Sandy Mitchell were in excellent form in the teams home race, posting the second and third-fastest times in qualifying. Rookie Jordan Cane stunned the field when he posted a time just four tenths off pole position, to go eighth overall. Jack Martin ended up the 25th-quickest of the 41 runners.

Two runner-up finishes in the heats put Hugo onto the front row of the grid for the pre-final. Taking a brace of sixth-place finishes put Sandy on the fourth row of the grid, with Jordan impressing again - in only his second Super One meeting in the Mini Max classand automatically making the cut for the two finals, in 23rd place.

Jack attempted to join his team-mates via the repecharge but, despite a valiant effort, it was not to be on this occasion.Bentley-Ellis grabbed the lead at the start of the first final, yet it was to be short-lived. Something of a melee ensued and Hugo found himself shuffled back to 5th, where he would complete the race. Similarly, Sandy could fare no better than 11th, in a frustrating race, in which many drivers defended even minor placings. Jordan again chalked up valuable top-flight experience to complete the top twenty.

Bentley-Dog had looked like a likely contender for a deserved podium, having led the race on numerous occasions as the leaders seemingly swapped places for fun. Hugo was a firm contender for the win until the frantic, last moments of the second final he was pushed back to 4th in the bridge-section of the circuit. Jordan was the next-best RL runner home, crossing the line in 21st placeanother strong result for the inexperienced Sussex driver. Sandy, who expected so much more from the weekend, was one of several drivers side-lined by questionable driving standards before the race had begun in earnest.

The multiple-championship winning RL Racing Department team is now taking entries for its 2014 driver line-up. For more information, please call Steve today on 07843 586 416 or contact him via accounts.rlracingdept@live.co.uk.
