Debuting at this track and other minor additional problems, like starting from the back of the grid in race one, were important mountains to climb at the British meeting of the Maserati Trofeo World Series at Silverstone for Ibran.
The Spanish driver hadnt never raced before at this track, which known as a very difficult one for debutant. After finishing in the top-ten at the Nurburgring, Ibran was looking for a repeat performance here and even to improving his previous record in the championship.
In the free practice sessions, Ibran was 11th in FP1 and then 14th in FP2 posting a best lap of 2:17.224. On Saturday, in the qualifying sessions he was 13th in Q1 and later able to improve to 2:16.959 in Q2, 12th fastest.
Unfortunately in race 1 Ibran was forced to start last due to a tyre problem, and this determined his race. To be competitive here at Silverstone is quite difficult, because its a difficult circuit. For sure a test session here would have been pretty good and our set-up didn't help either due to understeer, he explained shortly after race one was finished, where he concluded 11th in very hot conditions after overtaking several cars during the race.
Then on Sunday other two races were scheduled. In race two there was another problem with a tyre and he finished 19th but the Valencia-born driver was saving his best effort for the end.
In race three, with an endurance format, Ibran finished 9th. It was a good ending for this weekend. That ninth place proved how my performance and race pace got faster at Silverstone, a circuit that is very technical and not really easy to learn. But in race three my times were something like two seconds faster than those on Friday, and getting closer to front-places times. Now my mind is already thinking in the United States, the next country to visit at Sonoma Raceway in California".
The American event is scheduled on 24-25 August.
