Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series team Double R Racing cant wait for the resumption of the 2013 championship at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium next weekend, Friday, 26th July, and Saturday, 27th July, where the Woking squad aims to continue its podium momentum.Making a superb start to its British F3 campaign at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit at the end of May, the former title-winning team celebrated a memorable maiden victory for Antonio Giovinazzi during round twothe Italian securing Double Rs first race win since 2011.Team-mate Sean Gelael, meanwhile, bagged a brace of richly deserved podiums in rounds one and two. Aged just 16-years-of-age, the youngest driver in the championship, the achievements of the Indonesian rookie are thought to have made him the youngest rostrum finisher in British F3 history.Double Rs third driver, Tatiana Caldern, also enjoyed a strong debut in the series and claimed a best result of seventh position in round twothe Colombian lady racer having been as high as fourth place.Heading into the second event of the season, where British F3 will run as a support category to the annual Total 24 Hours of Spa endurance race, Giovinazzi is third in the headline International Class, only a point behind second place, with Gelael in fifth a further point shy of his team-mate. Caldern, meanwhile, currently holds seventh position.
Although last weekends outing at Germanys Norisring in the dovetailed FIA Formula 3 European Championship was a luckless event for Double R, team principal Anthony Boyo Hieatt is confident all three drivers will be able to enjoy much better fortune as the British F3 series resumes.
Silverstone was a fantastic weekend for the team, all three drivers did a great job and to take our first win for a couple of years was a great way to start the season, Hieatt commented, Were not getting carried away, the bad luck at Norisring last weekend in the European Championship shows how tough F3 is, but weve got high hopes of another series of strong performances at Spa.Its one of the best tracks in the world, we always enjoy it there, and if Antonio, Sean and Tatiana can get qualifying together then I think all three have a great chance of scoring some good points. Hopefully we can be in the fight for the podium again toowell just have to see what happens.Due to the 24 Hour race taking place next weekend, the British F3 track action will begin with free practice and qualifying on Thursday, 25th July. Round four is scheduled to start at 10.10 (local time) on Friday, 26th July, with round five following at 13.30 (local time).
