Lola Aston Martin DBR1-2 to take part in Shelsley Walsh Aston Martin centenary

The Lola Aston Martin DBR1-2 that competed at Le Mans in 2009 and came 4th in class will make its debut at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb Aston Martin Centenary event on the 17th and 18th August. The 007 car was driven by Jan Charouz, Stefan Mucke and Thomas Enge and was the leading Lola Aston Martin that year as part of a two car assault on the Le Mans 24 Hours race. This is probably the first time that a recent Le Mans Sports Prototype has driven on the famous Worcestershire hill and will certainly be a sight to remember as it covers the 1000 yard course.Re-uniting Le Mans Aston Martins and Shelsley Walsh will carry on a tradition of them competing at Shelsley Walsh. It was in 1950 and 51 when Aston Martin came to the Worcestershire hill as a works effort with the Le Mans DB2 team cars with both XMC 76 and XMC 77 for Reg Parnell, George Abecassis and Charles Brackenbury and then George Abecassis returned in 1953 with the DB3.Lionel Martin himself entered cars on no less than 7 occasions throughout the early 1920s and in 1955 and 56 Angela Brown, daughter of David Brown then owner of the marque, entered a DB3.Mark Constanduros, Commercial Manager for the Midland Automobile Club said "We are delighted that the owner has agreed to bring and run the Lola Aston Martin DBR1/2 on both days, as this will be a real tribute to Lionel Martin who had such an affiliation with the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, this event will be something really special."Stratstone, one of the UKs largest dealerships and the largest luxury retailer are also supporting the event with support from Aston Martin Lagonda and will be displaying a wide selection of current road cars overlooking the start line, which will also take part in a timeline parade. There will be a special competition tribute class supported by The Aston Martin Owners Club with cars from as early as 1922 right up to the current era. The car park will also be home to a large display of Aston Martins that arrive to the event. This event is also a round of the Avon Tyres/TTC Group MSA British Hillclimb and Hillclimb Leaders Championship.More details of the Aston Martin Centenary event will be announced in due course. To buy tickets or find further information, visit www.shelsley-walsh.co.uk
