ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was ecstatic after becoming European champion on Sunday.
Norris claimed the title despite finishing in 25th position in Ortona after a difficult weekend in the CIK-FIA euro championship.
His brilliant win in the previous round was enough to rack up the points needed to lift the trophy in the KFJ class - and continue to build on his growing reputation in a season that goes from strength-to-strength.
After beating the cream of Europe, he said: Its brilliant. To become European champion in my first season at this level is amazing. To know my name is up there now, considering the names who have won it in the past is really special. The season is getting better and better.
But for once, Lando didnt have everything his own way on the track. He finished 27th overall in qualifying after one of the groups proved much faster than his.Although he improved on his position during the heats, he still found himself finishing 14th.Lando began the pre-final in seventh, but with carburetor problems hampering his progress and speed on the straights, could only finish fifth.
In the final he started ninth but was pushed off the track on the first corner leaving him in last place.Just as he was getting into his stride and had got in front of eight of the field he was knocked off the track again, leaving him languishing in 25th.
However, having come off the track believing his dreams of Euro glory were over, he discovered he had tied with two other drivers who were all had the same points.
And his win in the previous round, and 25th position this time round, were enough to see him claim the title. He said: I came off pretty angry, but I was told three of us had the same points.
We had to wait a few hours to find out what would happen, but when they told me I had won because my two results were better than the others, I couldnt believe it.
And after winning the WSK Euro Series and coming second in the Master Series, Lando hopes there is more to come after this latest success.
He added: We have the world championships coming up and plenty more, so I just want to keep on winning and doing as well as I can.ends
