Dani Clos To Make GP2 Return With MP Motorsport

Former FIA Formula One World Championship test driver Dani Clos is to make a return to track action in the supporting GP2 Series at the Hungarian Grand Prix this coming weekend, 27th/28th July, after joining podium-finishing team MP Motorsport for rounds 13 and 14 of the season.Taking over the seat vacated by Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, 24-year-old Closa race winner in GP2 back in 2010 during his second season in the F1 antechamberbrings a wealth of experience to the first year Dutch squad. He will race alongside MP Motorsports regular driver, GP2 rookie Danil De Jong.Were delighted to welcome Dani to the team, hes a fantastic driver and has achieved a lot in his career so far, said team principal Sander Dorsman, The experience he brings to MP Motorsport will be priceless, hes won in GP2 and has tested in Formula One. Were all really looking forward to working with him for the first time in Hungary this weekend.Clos, who is from Barcelona in Spain, returns to GP2 after more than a year since his last competitive outing in the category. Graduating into the headline F1 support championship in 2009, having raced prior to that in Formula Renault, Formula 3 Euroseries and the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Clos took his maiden GP2 podium in the final round of his debut season.

Finishing fourth in the championship in 2010, claiming his first victory during round six in Turkey, the Spaniard continued in GP2 for a third season the following year where he achieved more podiums and ended the campaign in ninth place.

In 2012, he was named the official test driver for the now defunct HRT F1 Team and took part in the opening practice sessions at four Grand Prix meetings. Clos actually made his F1 test debut in 2008 with the Williams F1 Team at Jerez in Spain and made a second appearance with the squad later that same year. Clos first run in MP Motorsport colours will come during free practice at the Hungaroring tomorrow, Friday, 26th July, at 12.00 (local time) with qualifying following at 15.55 (local time). Round 13 of the GP2 Series is set to begin at 15.40 (local time) on Saturday, 27th July, with round 14 taking place on Sunday, 28th July, at 10.35 (local time).
