Rob Smith Snetterton Clio Cup preview

STRONG SEASON RUN-IN TARGETED BY SMITH AS CLIO CUP RESUMESSnetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk will host the sixth event of the 2013 Renault UK Clio Cup season next weekend, 3rd/4th August, where Rob Smith aims to put together a consistently strong run-in as the championship enters its final stages. With only six races still to be contested in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support categorys campaign, including rounds 11 and 12 Snetterton, the 21-year-old is determined to string together regular top 10 finishes across the final three events.Ahead of next weekends outing, Rob is 14th overall in the main Clio Cup standingsjust a single point behind 13th placeand ninth in the Graduate Cup class. With a best race result of sixth so far, the Telford driver also has three other top 10 finishes to his credit. While Rob has delivered strong pace this year, only his second season in front-wheel drive saloon car racing, his championship bid has suffered some misfortunenot least two costly non-finishes, one at Thruxton and another, last time out, at Croft five weeks ago.Over the course of the break since the previous two rounds, Rob has remained busy with a test outing at the wheel of his Total Control Racing Clio at Donington Park and a run at Snetterton in a JCW MINI Challenge car. He also grabbed the chance to have a run in his old Formula Ford 1600 single-seater for the first time since 2011.Its been nice to have a bit of a break over the last few weeks but it was good to get back in the Clio for the Donington test, it went well and we made some good progress, he commented, I really enjoyed the run in the MINI too, it was good fun, and it was great getting back behind the wheel of the 1600. After two years in Clios it was bit of a change going back to rear-wheel drive!Weve shown some good pace up to now this year but its the consistency which has been missing, thats something I really want to turn around in the final few races of the season. Im targeting two top 10 finishes as a minimum at Snetterton. For next weekends visit to Norfolk, Robs regular sponsorship portfolio of Goodride Performance Tyres, Grouptyre and BMTR will expand to include East Anglias We Sell Tyres (Wholesale)part of the Newark-based Tanvic Tyres Group.

Distributing tyres across the east of England, from warehouses located in Ipswich and Nottingham, We Sell Tyres is a key member of the Grouptyre network and representatives from the company will be travelling to Snetterton to cheer-on Rob and enjoy some paddock hospitality. Its great to welcome We Sell Tyres back as a sponsor for Snetterton, added Rob, We all enjoyed a pretty good weekend last year , finishing 12th on my first time there in the Clio wasnt bad at all, so hopefully I can improve on that this time and give everyone from WST something to celebrate.Pre-event Renault UK Clio Cup testing will take place next Friday, 2nd August, with qualifying and round 11 following on Saturday, 3rd August, at 11.20 and 16.40 respectively.
