Marvin Kirchhofer secures eighth ATS Formula 3 Cup win of the season

17 drivers from ten countries kicked off the second half of the season this weekend, providing excitement throughout the races.

The third race of the weekend was no different. The spectators watched exciting battles on the 3.618-km track at Nurburgring. Championship leader Marvin Kirchhofer took the victory in the Cup ranking; Freddy Killensberger from Wortelstetten finished first in the Trophy ranking.

Making a jump start from his third place on the grid, Swede John Bryant-Meisner (Performance Racing / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) grabbed the lead. After a drive-through penalty he defended his place until he was forced to retire early due to some damage. Marvin Kirchhfer from Leipzig in first place and Russian Artem Markelov in second place battled hard. Watching on from his third place, Briton Emil Bernstorff (all Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) avoided using the valuable push-to-pass system unnecessarily. However, it was in vain, since he had to serve a drive-through penalty after setting a best sector time under yellow flags. Lucky for American Gustavo Menezes (Van Amersfoort Racing / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) who grabbed the third place on the podium as a consequence. Ahead of him, Markelov took the second and Kirchhfer the first place. It was the eighth victory of the season for the rookie.

Balthasar loses pointsThe current leader of the Trophy ranking was forced to retire early due to technical problems, causing him to lose valuable points. Freddy Killensberger from Wortelstetten (GU-Racing / Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) was very pleased about his victory in the Trophy ranking, leaving Maximilian Hackl from Ruderting (Franz Wss Racing / Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) behind in second and Swiss Thomas Amweg (CR Racing Team / Dallara F307 Mercedes) in third place in the Trophy ranking.

Marvin Kirchhofer: The start was quite turbulent. I grabbed the lead but the traffic was quite bad. My two-second lead faded to nothing and I had to defend myself on the straight. It was definitely not a boring race.Artem Markelov: Throughout the race I tried to overtake Marvin and got really close to him. Still, I did not want to take any risks. Next time I will fight even harder. My team did a brilliant job again.Gustavo Menezes: The weekend started off great. But then we faced a few difficulties. Therefore I am really pleased to be back on the podium. It is always difficult driving under yellow flags. I was lucky this time.Freddy Killensberger: I had a few problems and a delay at the start. But then I was able to really push forward. The car ran really well!
