Avon Tyres British GT Championship race winner Ahmad Al Harthy travels to Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit this weekend, 10th/11th August, for round seven of the 2013 season where the Oman Air Motorbase driver is confident of challenging for yet more silverware.Fresh from his maiden experience at the Total 24 Hours of Spa just over a week ago in the Blancpain Endurance Series, where the Omanis team unfortunately had to retire early on after contact from a rival, the 31-year-old is relishing the prospect of reuniting with British GT team-mate Michael Caine. So far in Ahmads maiden year of endurance racing, he and Caine have enjoyed some excellent results in the heavily subscribed British series despite the pairing being handicapped by a hefty weight penalty due to their relative levels of motor racing experience. The highlight has been a richly deserved maiden victory at the wheel of the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Center-liveried Porsche 997 GT3R during round five at Snetterton in Norfolk in mid-June.Added to fourth and ninth place finishes at Oulton Park, sixth position at Rockingham, ninth at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit and eighth position in the second of the two Snetterton races, Ahmad and Caine are fourth in the championshipa mere seven points shy of the lead. Its incredibly close in the championship ahead of Brands next weekend, every point scored is going to be crucial with only four races left, said the Muscat racer, We didnt come into this season with any expectations, my first year in GT racing is all about learning and adapting to endurance racing, so to be fourth in the championship at this stage is fantastic. After taking our first win at Snetterton, we really want to keep pushing for the podium and Im confident we can. Michael has been driving superbly all year, as I always knew he would, and the guys at Oman Air Motorbase have done an incredible job with the carits been a joy to drive. With experience of the 2.43-mile Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit from his tenure in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship, 2012 Pro-Am 1 title winner Ahmad knows the track well and can therefore focus on obtaining the best set-up possible during the two, one-hour practice sessions ahead of the 120-minute seventh round of the season.Im really looking forward to racing on the Grand Prix Circuit again, its such a fantastic track and demands a lot of commitment, he said, British GT is so competitive this year, there are so many driver and car combinations capable of winning, but were feeling confident. The extra ballast we have to carry will hurt us in qualifying, as it has all year, but in the race we should be strong. The opening free practice session for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship competitors will get underway at 09.30 on Saturday, 10th August, with the second run beginning at 13.30 and qualifying then following at 17.30. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 13.40 on Sunday, 11th August.Provisional 2013 Avon Tyres British GT Championship Standings (after Rd6):=4th Ahmad Al Harthy/Michael Caine, 61pts
