More Wins for Gearlink Kawasaki at Oulton Park Supersport Round 7

Gearlink Kawasaki had another fantastic weekend at round seven of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship with Alastair Seeley stretching his Championship lead to 47-points from his nearest rival Stuart Easton. Alastair gained a great second place in race one and a superb win in race two. His team-mate Ben Wilson had a mixed weekend with a podium and third place in race one but was unfortunate to suffer a mechanical problem in race two.

Once again the two Supersport races proved to be two of the closest and most competitive races of the entire weekend. In the first race the top four were split by 1.4 seconds and in race two the top six were split by only 1.8 seconds. Alastair was locked in a battle in race one with Stuart Easton and the pairing pushed each other for the entire race with Stuart winning by 0.08. In the second 15-lap race on Sunday it was action packed, close racing with a great result for the Gearlink Kawasaki team and Alastair Seeley and the win.

Alastair Seeley - "It's been a really good weekend for myself and the Gearlink Kawasaki team, both races were really tough but two great battles. Today's race was very fierce and action packed and must have been great for the fans to watch. I really wanted to take the win and we were swapping paint work on most laps, it was hard but brilliant to ride in. There was no contact made but I'd imagine you couldn't have fit a bit of paper in between some of the passes that were being made. The bike was sliding everywhere but I knew I could keep pushing. The Gearlink team have once again done a great job and thanks must go to all my personal sponsors."

Ben Wilson was involved in a great battle in the opening Sprint race on the Saturday and was able to achieve a solid podium of third place. He was looking to better or equal that result and was locked in an eight bike battle for the win when a mechanical fault as he entered Hizzys' chicane forced him to retire from the race from fourth place on lap 12.

Ben Wilson - "I'm really gutted about having a bike problem in the race today, I seem to have been dealt a bit of bad luck this year and things just aren't quite going my way. The first race was good and I was able to run with them at the front and I knew I'd be able to fight for the win in race two but it just wasn't to be. I like Cadwell and have been strong there in the past so I just hope things will turn around for then and I can be back up there on the podium."

Pirelli National Superstock 600s

Once again in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 class, Luke Hedger took another stunning win in the very tough Championship and he was pushed throughout the 12-lap race to secure his second consecutive race win. Qualifying on the front row in third position the youngster took the lead from the start and despite several challenges from Jordan Simpkin he led every lap of the race and took a fantastic win. His team-mate Mark Wilkinson managed to gain 14th place after qualifying in 20th position at a track that he has struggled at in the past.

Luke Hedger - "That was such a tough race but well worth it in the end to secure another win in the Championship, is a great feeling. Everything has felt really good all weekend and I knew I'd be able to push hard but wanted to try and get a lead from the start and bridge a gap, Jordan wasn't allowing that. We were battling every lap and on a few occasions he'd make a move on me and come past but I was determined I was going to win and I wanted to fight hard. It was a great race and despite it being so close there was a lot of respect between us both and the passes were all very clean. I heard he had a problem on the final lap but he rode brilliantly and it was a great effort from him we had a fantastic race out there and hope the fans enjoyed it, I know I did. I would like to dedicate this win to my mechanic Dan whose partner Nicola left the track yesterday and delivered a baby girl, congratulations to both. Thanks also to all my personal sponsors and once again to the Gearlink Kawasaki team for providing me a race winning bike."

Mark Wilkinson - "I knew this weekend would be tough as it's a track that I have struggled with in the past. It's not my favourite track so to get in the points here on my first outing here on the Gearlink Kawasaki bike was a good achievement. It was a hard race and I struggled to find a good set up during practice and qualifying I was able to get a really good start and not get involved in too much of the drama that was going on. I'm looking forward to getting to Cadwell in a few weeks' time that's for sure."

Team Manager Michael de Bidaph - "Well what can I say it's been another brilliant weekend for the team with two wins from Alastair and Luke is just a great achievement and a credit to the entire Gearlink Kawasaki team.

The Supersport class this year is possibly the most competitive class and to win in a race like that is brilliant. We were up there all weekend with Ben and Alastair and the first race was a great result with two podiums and today was a mixed day with a win for Alastair and a bike problem for Ben.

Alastair rode a very mature race today and despite dropping back to fourth at one point he was able to make some great passes and get back through to the front of the pack. He's now got a 47-point lead in the Championship and although it sounds a lot we are still only half way through the season so it is important to keep focused and gaining strong results.

I'm really disappointed for Ben as he has showed good pace all weekend and obviously was running in a good position when he suffered a bike problem. He has had his fair share of bad luck this season so we will make sure we can do everything we can to ensure he has good results at Cadwell Park.

Luke once again proved his maturity in his race and locked in a tight battle with Jordan Simpkin but he was not fazed and kept his head down and was able to keep fighting back to take another great win for the team. Mark was feeling a little bit uncomfortable coming here as it is a track that he struggles at but he improved all weekend and eventually managed to get himself some more Championship points, he worked hard and pushed his way through and it was a good solid ride."
