WWRS R.A.C. Rally Championship award winners announced

The special award winners for the fourth round of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship have been announced following the Neath Valley Stages (Saturday 10 August).Jonathan Brace/Jonny Evans posted the first retirement of the rally when his Ford Escort Mk2 suffered clutch problems at the start of the opening stage. The last retirement was the Ford Escort Mk2 of Aziz Tejpar/Alister Crook, which suffered a fire on the penultimate stage. Both crews will receive a 100 voucher from West Wales Rally Spares, as will Ford Escort Mk2 crew Paul Fry/Mike Steele after their number came out of the hat in the draw for a third voucher.Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo GT crew John Everard and Mark Sharpley will receive a cheque for 212.50 from Holton Homes after their number came out in the draw for a refund of 50% of the event entry fee.The Spirit of the Rally product award from Fuchs Lubricants goes to championship newcomers Andrew Clayworth and Jez Rogers. They stopped on SS4 to assist Aziz Tejpar when his car caught fire and dropped a lot of time assisting at the scene. They went on to finish well in their superb Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000.David Kirby and Chris Rixon won the Best Improvement on Seeding, which is a set of axle brake pads from Mintex, after a tremendous run in their Ford Escort Mk1. Finally, Terry Cree won the Hard Charger award of a 20-litre jerry can from Green Valley Industrial Supplies. Cree and co-driver Richard Shores made the long journey from North Yorkshire worthwhile with an attacking drive to win class C3 and finish top championship contenders in Category 2.
