Pirelli prepares for biggest GT Cup grid since 2009

A sparkling grid of 38 GT cars will take to Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this weekend for round five of the spectacular GT Cup Championship which uses Pirelli as its official tyre supplier.

The large grid boasts a number of entries from crack teams including FF Corse, Barwell Motorsport, Team Parker Racing and Parr Motorsport. The championship has also been chosen for the worldwide racing debut of the new Sin R1 supercar. In all, 12 manufacturers will be represented across the entries fielding 20 models of car.

The GT Cups previous best was 40 cars back in 2009, but the Silverstone entry list is the largest since taking championship status in 2010.

"Were delighted to be bringing such a strong grid to Silverstone, said Bute Motorsport Managing Director, Marc Haynes. We are always grateful to our competitors and teams for their support and never forget it is their commitment which provides such an exciting spectacle.

Pirelli UK Tyres Motorsport Operations Manager, Matthew Corby, concluded: The GT Cup features some of the most spectacular cars that you will see in Britain and it is terrific that so many of them will be at Silverstone this weekend. With such a diversity of machinery on show, the racing will be more exciting than ever. Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits in the world, which is renowned for fast and demanding corners such as Copse. The track surface can also be quite abrasive, which further increases tyre wear, so the crews will have to manage their rubber as best they can. We look forward to a busy and exciting weekend of racing ahead.

Saturday will consist of one 40 minute race with a compulsary pit stop and will also include a 40 minute free practice session. Sunday will comprise of two 25 minute sprint races, and each day will include a 20 minute qualifying session.

Pirelli will be once again on hand to supply slick tyres in DM and DH compounds, plus the WS and WH wet weather tyres should they be required.

The GT Cup Championship will be broadcast on Motors TV
