Nurburgring, practiceVittorio Ghirelli, driving for Super Nova International, logged the fastest lap of the day so far at the Nurburgring, in the free practice for the upcoming Auto GP round. Driving one of the 550-horsepower Zytek-powered cars of the series, which were designed by Enzo Coloni ed Enrique Scalabroni, the Italian racer set his personal best mark in 1'20"198. The reigning teams' champions set the tone of the morning in Germany with a cool 1-2 performance completed by Ghirelli's team-mate, Indian Narain Karthikeyan.
Managed by Giuseppe Cipriani, Ibiza Racing Team also showed its full potential by taking third with championship leader Sergio Campana, who was followed by team-mate Tamas Pal Kiss with the Hungarian man being at his maiden Auto GP run for the Spanish operation. They edged the well-performing MP Motorsport flying Dutchmen Meindert Van Buuren and Daniel De Jong, while Ghinzani Motorsport's Kevin Giovesi was trailed by Roberto La Rocca, driving for Comtec By Virtuosi in his maiden Auto GP race.Ninth place went to Kimiya Sato. The Euronova-fielded racer landed in Germany tied for the points lead with Campana, and by the end of Practice he stood in 9th, in front of his team-mate Yoshitaka Kuroda. Michela Cerruti also making her series debut for MLR71, managed to end up in 12th. The Auto GP Teams and Drivers will have their Kumho tires and Eni fuel ready for Qualifying, starting later today at 15:45.
