Another podium and GP3 championship lead for Facu Regalia

Facu Regalia continues his fight for the GP3 title as he scored another podium in the Spa GP3 Feature Race.

After a difficult qualifying session, when nothing worked as team and driver expected – he was 8th fastest-, for the race his performance was much improved. At the start he managed to overtake two cars and shortly after he also passed Yelloly on the outside to run in 5th after just one lap. Safety car was deployed on the second lap after a crash on the very first lap and, when race was underway once again, Regalia had to try his best to keep ahead of his his rivals.

The Argentine driver managed to avoid a clash involving Sainz and Harvey and, after that, his third place was secure. With Tio Ellinas, leader until this round, 8th, Regalia is now first in the overall classification.

“I feel so happy, and after a difficult qualifying session when we weren´t where expected. My start was very good, overtaking two cars and later Yelloly on the outside. To keep my fifth place wasn´t that easy because Korjus and Sims were quite strong, meanwhile my target was not to be far from Sainz and Harvey”, Regalia explained. After safety car period, “it´s when the incident involving Harvey and Sainz happened. It wasn´t easy because I wasn´t far behind. I could avoid debris on track, always a problem with punctures. When I was third, I knew it was a great result because, with Ellinas 8th, lead was mine”.

For tomorrow, “this result is another morale boost. Let´s see how tomorrow´s race goes because rain could be an unexpected guest. It could mean another very difficult race for everyone. As I said this morning it´s important to race with a clear mind”.
