eBay Motors Colin Turkington joins SuperStars Series

Colin becomes a Superstar

eBay Motors driver Colin Turkington will take on a fresh challenge next month when he takes part in the British round of the Superstars International Series at Donington Park.

Colin will drive a BMW M3 for the Scuderia Giudici team in the event on the weekend of 31 August/1 September, with the move set to see him go up against former BTCC rival Fabrizio Giovanardi and ex-F1 star Vitantonio Liuzzi.

It will the second season in a row that one of the eBay Motors team has taken up a guest role on the Superstars grid at Donington Park, with Tom Onslow-Cole having driven a Ferlito Motors-run Jaguar XFR in the corresponding meeting last year.

“I’ve been pestering the guys at Superstars for a few years to do the Donington Park race,” Colin said. “There was an opportunity to do it last year but I was unable to take up the chance, but I made sure I put my name forwards again this year.

“It’s great to have the chance to do the race this season, and especially in a BMW, which is what I was keen on. While I don’t know the car, I obviously know the brand very well and it will be good to sample another BMW for the weekend.

“I really enjoy racing with the eBay Motors team in the BTCC, but when the opportunity comes along to take part in some extra races, you have to take it. It’ll be a new experience for me but it all helps as a driver, and I might learn something that will help me in the BTCC.”

While Colin has raced at Donington Park already this season in his eBay Motors BMW 125i M-Sport, that was on the shorter National layout, with his Superstars outing coming on the full GP layout that incorporates the Melbourne Loop. With it not yet known if he’ll get the chance to test his car before the race weekend, Colin insists he isn’t getting carried away about his chances, and will aim to simply enjoy the extra opportunity to compete.

“Superstars is another strong championship with a lot of good teams and drivers, and I’m looking forward to seeing how I shape up against them,” he said. “However, I know it will be tough in a one-off outing, just as it would be if one of the guys from Superstars came and did a one-off in the BTCC.

“I’m pushing for a test in the car if possible to get a flavour of what the car is like, but I’ll have to wait and see if that is possible. As for what I expect from the race weekend, I honestly have no idea! I’m not sure how competitive the BMW is with the Balance of Performance rules there are, so I’m just going to go out and enjoy the experience and do the best job I can.”
