Sixteen drivers from nine countries started into the race with reversed-grid format at Lausitzring. Just like in the first race of this morning, the 20-minute sprint race was also marked by a crash, but the drivers escaped unscathed. The 3.442 kilometres of Lausitzring are a challenge. Marvin Kirchhofer started into the race from the sixth place and scored a top podium place. Freddy Killensberger won the Trophy ranking this time.
Italian Matteo Cairoli (ADM Motorsport / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) was the pole sitter. John Bryant-Meisner from Sweden (Performance Racing / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) and Briton Emil Bernstorff (Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) stayed on the tail of the 17-year old, passing him in the fourth lap. Behind them, Marvin Kirchhofer from Leipzig (Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) took American Gustavo Menezes (Van Amersfoort Racing / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) for fourth in a superb manoeuvre on the start-finish straight. After going off the track with two wheels, the leader hit Bernstorff who had just passed him on his way back. Both were forced to retire after the crash, but both escape unscathed. Kirchhofer led the grid after a safety car phase; Russian Artem Markelov (Lotus / Dallara F311 Volkswagen Power Engine) took Cairoli for second. The Italian drove across the finish line in third place, scoring his first podium place of this season.
Increased excitement in the TrophySince Sebastian Balthasar from Cologne (GU-Racing / Dallara F311 Mercedes) made a mistake, the leader of the Trophy ranking had no chance scoring a place on the podium. As a result, Freddy Killensberger from Wortelstetten (GU-Racing / Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) was on top once again, followed by Christopher Hher from Austria (Franz Wss Racing / Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge). Fellow Austrian, Stefan Neuburger (Franz Wss Racing / Dallara F311 OPC-Challenge) in third place was happy about scoring another place on the podium.
Marvin Kirchhofer: I did not have a perfect start and I had to hold back in the first turn. Then I saw the crash. Of course, I am pleased that I have won the race, but I hope that my team-mate will be able to compete tomorrow.Artem Markelov: I had a hard battle for second. I hope Emil is o.k. Nevertheless, I am happy that I scored championship points again.Matteo Cairoli: Im very happy with the race. It was a big success for me. The team did a brilliant job and I am just so happy.Freddy Killensberger: I managed to close the gap to Hher and benefited from Sebastian's mistake. It is a great end to the day after everything that happened this morning.
