The unique challenge of the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire is the setting for the next rounds of the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (14/15 September) as Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing maintain their bid for the biggest title in British motor racing. The Rockingham event, on a track that blends a high-speed oval section with a twisty infield, makes up rounds 22, 23 and 24 as the championship enters its closing stages and what is sure to be a dramatic run in to the 2013 title. After Rockingham, just Silverstone and Brands Hatch remain on the 2013 schedule and another bumper crowd is expected at the Corby track. After a fabulous 2013 season to date for Pirtek Racing, Andrew is right in the centre of the battle for the overall title, holding second place just six points behind leader Matt Neal. Former champions Gordon Shedden, Colin Turkington and Jason Plato are next up, putting Andrew right up with the biggest names in the BTCC.Andrew is leading the Independent Drivers’ title race by 38 points; Pirtek Racing is currently third in HiQ Teams’ Championship and is leading the Independent Teams’ Trophy by 30 points. To date, Andrew has taken race wins at Donington Park, Oulton Park Snetterton and Knockhill and knows that another victory at Rockingham would be another major boost for his title bid.“A lot can happen over the final nine races,” says Andrew. “I’m the only driver to have finished in the points at every race and we’ve had a podium at every race meeting so far this year. We’ll take 36kg of success ballast to Rockingham, but that is almost our base weight these days as we’ve had that pretty much all year. I think a lot of the fast corners will really suit us, so I think we’ll go really well. I like some of the corners at Rockingham. It’s about finding that balance between pushing hard and scoring points all the time.”After qualifying on Saturday 14 September at 15.40, the first of three BTCC races will be at 11.25 on Sunday, with race two at 14.00 and race three at 16.50. All three races will be broadcast live on ITV4. Qualifying will be broadcast live at www.itv.com and live results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
