In the sixth GT Open round Montermini clinches a crucial win in race-2 at the wheel of the Ferrari 458 thanks to a superb comeback after a prudent first part by Rigon in tricky conditions. For the Italian team it is the 11th podium out of 12 in the season
The star of Villorba Corse shines again in the GT Open thanks to a stunning win in race-2 at Spa, sixth round of the series. Andrea Montermini has clinched the third victory of the season with a superb comeback from seventh and a spectacular series of overtaking behind the wheel of the Ferrari 458 GT2, setting also the fastest lap of the race.
After a prudent start from the front row and a defensive first part of the race in tricky humid condition, Davide Rigon tried to avoid unnecessary risks after the unlucky Saturday's race-1, when the podium obtained by the young Venetian driver was cancelled by a penalty. With the mandatory driver change the team also changed strategy and the former F1 driver made a comeback to the limits of imagination. In the final laps Montermini reached and overtook the Aston Martin of Ide-Soulet (3rd at the finish line) and then, in the last lap, the Lamborghini of Cox-Hamprecht (2nd), thus completing his ride with a victory which is the eleventh podium out of twelve in the season and a precious result to the leadership in the standings.
The Italian team led by Raimondo Amadio will be back on track for the home race at Monza in October.
