It is one of the highlights on the calendar of the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The racing weekends in the support programme of the DTM. Back in June, the drivers of the fastest national Formula series already got a taste of touring car action and a chance of checking out the cockpits of their idols at Lausitzring. Almost twenty drivers from ten countries will compete at the 3.696-km track of the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. One of them has a chance of securing the championship early at the penultimate racing weekend of the season: Marvin Kirchhöfer from Leipzig. The exceptional talent and his team have grabbed one title already.
Championship leader Marvin Kirchhofer proved during the last racing weekend of the ATS Formula 3 Cup at Lausitzring what he is capable of, silencing the last critics. The 19-year old was at the very back of the starting grids for two races, taking one third and one second place in the end. The exceptional talent has already secured the first title. With three races to go he is already the 2013 SONAX Rookie winner. “Winning the SONAX Rookie title early is just great,” says a happy Kirchhofer. “Now I am going to focus on the driver championship and on winning that title too!” Spectators at the racetrack in the Magdeburger Borde region could be the witness of that, since he has the opportunity to score the necessary points on the penultimate racing weekend of the season. Kirchhofer comes from Lotus, the talent factory from Oschersleben. They have already won the team ranking. “The early win of the team ranking is testament of the excellent job by the entire team,” says the happy Team Principal, Timo Rumpfkeil. “Of course, it is always an acknowledgement to have reached a goal. Still, it is just a first step. We will continue to work hard and stay motivated for the next few races. Now we want to win the driver championship title as soon as possible.”
Trophy championshipThe final result of the Trophy ranking is still open. Sebastian Balthasar from Cologne, who contests for GU-Racing, is in the lead, 58 points ahead of his team-mate Freddy Killensberger from Wortelstetten, Bavaria. That could change quickly though. Maximilian Hackl from Ruderting, Bavaria also has a good chance of scoring a top place on the podium. However, after fracturing his thumb at Lausitzring, the Franz Wöss Racing driver will only be able to compete again at the final racing weekend at Hockenheim. This will be a big opportunity for the driver and team principal of the CR Racing team, Andreas Germann from Pirmasens, giving him a chance to challenge his competitors for a place on the podium.
