AmDTuning.com chief becomes inaugural Battle of the Pros champion

AmDTuning.com team boss Shaun Hollamby has added to the team’s haul of silverware for the 2013 season after winning the Battle of the Pro’s title at the annual TRAX Performance Car Show.

Having spent this season focused on running the team’s British Touring Car Championship programme, Shaun was given the opportunity to get back behind the wheel himself having been chosen as one of the contenders to do battle for the inaugural Battle of the Pro’s crown at TRAX, which was held at Silverstone on Sunday 8 September.

The event saw drivers from a range of different disciplines go head-to-head around a specially designed handling course in a challenge described by organisers as the ‘ultimate test of speed and skill’.

As well as tackling the course in a Westfield sportscar and a new Renault Clio RS, each driver was then allowed to select a car of their choice for their third run, with the best time in each car then being added together to determine the winner.

Shaun’s weapon of choice was an Audi RS4 that had undergone work at AmDTuning.com’s West Thurrock base, with the car featuring an AmDTuning.com engine remap, Milltek stainless steel performance exhaust, KW coils, Brembo brakes, Spec clutch and H+R anti-rollbars to increase its already impressive performance.

Up against BTCC regulars Aron Smith, Tom Onslow-Cole and Ollie Jackson as well as World Rally Championship ace Elfyn Evans, double Time Attack champion Oli Clark and Guinness World Record holder for precision driving Jamie Morrow, Shaun showed his rivals a clean pair of heels as he came out on top of the pile to become the first winner of the title.

As well as impressing a bumper crowd on track, AmDTuning.com also made an impression elsewhere at the show, with fans able to get up close to the team’s two BTCC challengers – with its Honda Civic taking pride of place on the Scorpion Exhaust stand and its Volkswagen Golf being part of a display by Kleers Premium Car Care products.

“It was a fantastic event to be part of,” Shaun said. “I couldn’t believe how many people were present at Silverstone and I don’t think I’ve seen a crowd that big at the circuit outside F1 before. The Battle of the Pro’s was an interesting concept and was a great way to showcase what we do at AmDTuning.com, although I wasn’t sure if the Audi would be the right choice as it isn’t the smallest car. However, I was on the pace in both the Westfied and the Clio and then a good run in the Audi meant I came out on top.

“While it was only a bit of fun, the competitive spirit did kick in as soon as the visor on my helmet went down and it was nice to beat some of the guys who we are competing against in the BTCC, especially Ollie and Tom given they have raced the AmDTuning.com Golf in the past.

“Having both BTCC cars present allowed us to promote some of the sponsors who have backed us this season and I enjoyed the fact that I headed home with some silverware at the end of it. I’ll have to make sure I defend my title next year now!”
